WILLIS REID ALSTON, SR. was born to the late Willis Alston and Annie M. Sommerville Alston on October 25, 1944, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
Willis relocated to New York, and became employed in Parks and Recreation in Nassau County, New York. He retired as an equipment operator after thirty-eight years of loyal service.
Willis was united in matrimony to the former Carolyn Jean Samuels, who preceded him in death after thirty-five years of marriage. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Willis Reid Alston, Jr., who passed away on October 7, 2019.
Those loved ones remaining to thank God for the precious memories of his life and the legacy of his love are his children, Crystal Jalon Alston and Tishka Nannette Alston both of Long Island, NY; three grandchildren, Maygan Ryan Moore, Laughton James St. Patrick Rochester, and Lauren Jessica Alston all of Long Island, NY; one sister, Annie Pearl Alston Smith of Spartanburg, SC; one aunt, Mera Sommerville of Harlem, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 22, 2020, in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Harry R. Carter, Jr. will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the funeral time. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all service by the wearing of masks, practicing safe distancing, and limiting the number of persons in attendance.
