Willis James Richardson

On October 25, 1955, in Halifax County, North Carolina, the late Merzie Richardson and Elberther Rudd Richardson gave birth to a son, Willis James Richardson.  God sent one of His angels down to return Willis to his Heavenly home on Monday, February 17, 2020.

During his early life, Willis professed Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, where he remained faithful until ill health prevailed. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.

On June 23, 1978, Willis was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former Emma Clanton. He became employed as a textile worker for numerous years at the former J.P. Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, The Bibb Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Georgia Pacific of Emporia, Virginia. He also had a passion for his trade as a sheetrock professional.

Willis enjoyed fiddling with the guitar, listening to gospel music, and spending time with his beloved family, especially his wife, Emma, the love of his life. He was a proud member of  Key Stone Masonic Lodge #6 of Littleton, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by four siblings, Mavis and Geneva Mills, and Mary Ella and Johnella Richardson; and two brothers, Merzie Eddie and Kelsey Richardson.

Those left to forever cherish the precious memories of his life and love are his devoted wife, Emma Richardson of the home; his children, Karmunisha Richardson of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Emberado Richardson (Annise) of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Daveion Richardson, Antoine and Akari Purnell of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Courtland Barnes of Rocky Mount, NC, Emberado Richardson, Jr. of Temple, TX, and Elijah Richardson of Virginia Beach, VA; three sisters, Magnolia Richardson (Arnold) and Maybelle Richardson (Prince) all of Hollister, NC, and Mamie McWilliams of Whitakers, NC; five brothers, Charles Richardson, Gene Richardson, and James Richardson (alize) all of Hollister, NC, George Richardson (Barbara) of Whitakers, NC, and Alfred Richardson (Norma) of Chapel Hill, NC; one aunt, Addie Richardson of Enfield, NC; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Harvey (James), and Christine and Evelyn Richardson all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four brothers-in-law, Alonza Mills of Hollister, NC, Leonard Daniels (Darnise), Edward Daniels (Sandra), all of Roanoke Rapids, NC. and Larry Clanton of Whitakers, NC.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Harry R. Carter, Jr., will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 5:00–8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020, and at the church for one hour before the funeral service.
