Weston Mack “Uncle Skeet” Manley

WESTON MACK MANLEY, “Uncle Skeet, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, answered God’s call to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 25, 2019, and slept away peacefully at Brekenridge Retirement Center, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was born to the late Acy Manley and Bertha Newell Manley on March 30, 1929, in Halifax County, North Carolina.

Weston accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Walter’s Chapel Holiness Church in Hollister, North Carolina, under the leadership of the late Elder Tommy A. Lynch. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he attended the former Eastman High School in Enfield, North Carolina.

Weston enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  During his military career, he met and married the former Shirley Ann Taylor. God blessed this union with five children. He retired from the army after twenty-four years of dedicated, loyal service and settled in Huntsville, Alabama, with his family. While there, he joined the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Cole, and served as a Deacon, and also sang with the male chorus.

After many years, Weston returned to his home in North Carolina, and back to his roots at Walter’s Chapel Holiness Church in Hollister, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley; four brothers, Rev. William E. Manley, Ernest Manley, Wade Manley, and Curtis Manley; four sisters,

Margaret M. Solomon, Pearl M. Daniels, Lucinda M. Nicholson, and Frances M. Copeland.

Those left to forever treasure the precious memory of his life and to share the legacy of his love are his children, Terry of Nashville, TN, Ezyiah of Atlanta, GA, Julius of Marietta, GA, Rodney (Shermanda) of Meridianville, AL, and Tajh of Los Angeles, CA;  thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Willie Manley of Baltimore, MD; a devoted niece, Sylvia of Rocky Mount, NC;  his favorite niece, Janelle of Rocky Mount, NC ; and a multitude of other nieces, great-nieces, great-great- nieces, great-great-great-nieces; nephews, great-nephews, great-great-nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at the Walter’s Chapel Holiness Church, 1857 Ita Road, Hollister, NC. Elder Frederick Williams will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, and the body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
