Wayne Vonzell Mitchell

WAYNE VONZELL MITCHELL, son of the late Rev. Wells Mitchell and Mary Alice Zollicoffer Mitchell, was born on September 25, 1956, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life and entered his heavenly home on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

Wayne accepted Jesus Christ during his early life. His formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, and he graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina. He then served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after eight years of dedicated service.

Wayne returned to Halifax County and became employed as a mechanic with Lakewood Truck Stop in Halifax, North Carolina, and later journeyed to many regions as a truck driver with Abbott Laboratories in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Wilkerson and Margie Knight; seven brothers, Willie, Lewis, Dorpheus, Casper, Elbert, Wells, Jr., and Roger Mitchell; and his former wife, Brenda Richardson Mitchell.

Those left to cherish the precious memory of his life and love are his wife, Chantel McRae Mitchell; his stepchildren, Caliyah, Cailyn, Kameron, and Timothy and Dexter Allen; three step-grandchildren, Alexis, Shania, and Elliana; his devoted sister, Donnta Mitchell of Littleton, NC; his brother, Carl Mitchell of Greenbelt, MA; one great-aunt, Elberta Snow of Littleton, NC; one special niece, Kamri Mitchell of Littleton, NC; three sisters-in-law, Coreen Mitchell of Scotland Neck, NC, Lena Mae Mitchell of Whitakers, NC, and Yolanda Cox of Chesapeake, VA; three brothers-in-law, David Cox of Chesapeake, VA, Michael Vick of Vaughan, NC, and Jeremy Vick of Durham, NC; his mother-in-law, Jonethel McRae Vick; his father-in-law, Michael Vick; his special friends, Leroy Cooper, Willie Williams, Ethel Burt, and John McClaine; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 24, 2019, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. Sidney Zollicoffer will deliver the eulogy.
