VERNON RANDOLPH PIERCE was born to Noralene Pierce and the late Lloyd Randolph Pierce on September 11, 1968, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, morning, May 28, 2020, at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
During his early life, Vernon accepted Jesus Christ, was baptized, and joined the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Vernon received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System, and graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1986. He then attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, and majored in Fine Arts. He later attended Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina, and earned a degree in landscaping.
Vernon was known to his family and friends as, V, V-Nice, or simply, Vern. He had a heart of gold, a humble, loving spirit, and always wore a smile on his face.
Like his maternal grandfather, Raymond Hawkins, Sr., Vernon was a jack of all trades. As an accomplished artist, he had creative vision, and was successful in everything, from fine arts to remodeling houses, mechanical work, and cutting hair.
In addition to his father and maternal grandfather, Vernon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Maxine Pierce; and his nephew, Cortez M. Pierce.
Those loved ones remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of Vernon’s life are his beautiful daughter, Roxanna C. High; his precious grandchildren, Demeonna Zania Ussery, Harmony Chnesia Harrison, Jamario Kuyvo Harrison, and Auhsey Chayyim Wilson; his loving mother, Noralene Hawkins Pierce; his loving, devoted sisters, Yulonda Pierce and Shantel Pierce; his loyal brother, Steven C. Pierce; his special nieces, Diona, Ashley, and Ariel; his special nephew, Steven Pierce, Jr.; his maternal grandmother, Lenora Hawkins; his aunts, Sandra Hawkins, Dorothy Hughes (Gilbert), Elaine West, and Doris McNair; his uncles, Raymond Hawkins, Jr., Joe Nathan Pierce (Mary), and David Earl Pierce; his great-aunts, Mattie Brown, Ophelia Brown, and Rachael Wills; his great-uncles, Arbor Hawkins and Sterling Hawkins; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at the Hawkins Family Cemetery, Walnut Grove Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Rev. Ivey Harrison will deliver the eulogy. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of persons in attendance. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
