VELVET LEE TUCKER WILLIAMS, daughter of the late Wilbert Edward Tucker and Irene Weaver Tucker, was born on July 22, 1940, in Brunswick County, Virginia. After a lengthy illness, she departed this earthly life on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the Brian Center Southpoint in Durham, North Carolina.
During her childhood, Velvet joined Patillo Chapel Baptist Church in Henrico, North Carolina, and remained an active member until she joined her husband at Elams Chapel United Church of Christ in the Elams Community of Littleton, North Carolina. She served as a faithful member of the Sunday School, Church Choir, Missionary Ministry, and chair of the Kitchen Ministry.
Velvet received her formal education in the public schools of Brunswick County, Virginia. Her employment included a seamstress at Jay Too Clothing Factory in Littleton, North Carolina, a Certified Nursing Assistant, a Teacher’s Assistant in the Warren County Public Schools. She later attended Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina, and received her certification as a Licensed Cosmetologist. She was the owner of Velvet Touch Beauty Salon in Littleton, North Carolina, and then later moved her business to her home in the Elams Community.
Velvet was a member of the Eastern Stars and an active member of the Littleton Senior Center and Warrenton Senior Citizen Center. She participated and enjoyed the various activities offered at the centers, especially the field trips.
Velvet was united in Holy Matrimony to the Joseph Alfred Williams who preceded her in death on March 18, 2013, after fifty-three years of marriage. God blessed this union with three sons, Dave, Tony and Randy. She was very adventurous with several interests and possessed many gifts and talents. Kind, lovable, faithful, hardworking, and wonderful are only a few of the qualities she exhibited on a daily basis. Velvet loved flowers, gardening, sewing and helping others.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gloria Tucker, Cora T. Williams, and Macie T. Hicks.
Her life and legacy will remain treasured memories for her three sons, Dave (Joyce) and Tony (Kathy) of Durham, NC, and Randy (Maria) of Smithfield, NC; her goddaughter, Wilma Brown; a special daughter, Lisa W. Williams; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lobelia T. Whitfield of Philadelphia, PA, and Alice T. Foust (Delasio) of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Wilbert Dale Tucker, Jr. (Lawanda) of Gasburg, VA; a brother-in-law, Theodore Williams of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the Elams Chapel United Church of Christ, 203 Ebony Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Nathaniel Bunn, will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home on Sunday, July 29, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M., and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
