ROSIE MAE MILLS BOYD was born on February 22, 1929, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Ellis L. Mills, Sr. and Mamie Ashe Mills. She answered God’s call to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at her home in Littleton, North Carolina.
During her early life, Rosie professed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she attended the former Goldmine School in Littleton, North Carolina.
Rosie was united in Holy Matrimony to Ben Boyd, who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with many years of marriage, and they became the parents of ten children.
She was gentle, kind-spirited, very mannerable, and had a giving heart. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered for her loving ways and the wisdom she shared as God allowed her a long earthly life.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Horace Boyd; six brothers, Willie Mills, Jeremiah Mills, Hezekiah Mills, James Mills, Ellis Mills, and Claude Mills; five sisters, Lillian Taylor, Minnie Mills, Dora Brackett, Eugenia Pulley, and Jettie Johnson.
Those loved ones remaining to cherish the precious memory of her life and share the warmth of her spirit are her two sons, Claude Boyd (Gina) of Chattanooga, TN, and Ben C. Boyd of Littleton, NC; seven daughters, Ruby Ann Boyd, Elaine Boyd, and Hattie Boyd-Reid all of East Elmhurst, NY, Annie S. Young of Washington, DC, Desiree Davis and Glendola Armwood (Leonard) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Timolin Massenburg (Gary) of Littleton, NC; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, N C. The Pastor, Rev. Harry R. Carter, Jr., will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, December 22, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
