The world was blessed when Randolph Smith and Parthenia Brown Smith gave birth to Rosetta on December 10, 1933, in Washington DC. She was the third of their seven children, Geraldine, Dorothy, Geneva, Sylvia, William and Betsy. However, North Carolina, was calling for the family to come home, and the Smiths returned to their home city of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, when Rosetta was still very young. She was educated in the Halifax County Public School System, but left to pursue a greater need – caring for her family and being a caretaker for so many.
Rosetta was well-known for her many methods of encouragement and caring for whomever was in need. Because she was selfless, and had an open door policy for her heart and her home, the Smith-Harvey family has expanded to include neighbors, friends, children of the friends, grandkids and their friends, co-workers and strangers. For such an amazing woman to be in the lives of so many, it is only right that we pass on her great qualities, life lessons, and precious memories to those left to carry on her legacy.
In addition to her parents, God’s Heavenly plans have allowed Rosetta to be greeted in Heaven by those gone on before her: her daughter, Sabrina; her sisters, Geraldine, Dorothy, and Sylvia; and her brother, William; We are so fortunate that Rosetta continued to hold on to God’s unchanging hand so that reunion could take place, and His plan is also that she welcomes all of us at the gate!
Those left to cherish her precious memory, carry her torch, and sing the praises of her love are her children, Quentin Rudolph Smith, Johnnie Harvey, Jr., Larry Harvey, David Harvey, Karen Harvey and Shirley Harvey all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her sisters, Geneva Abington and Betsy Spencer of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a special niece, Quentina “Tiny” Burgess of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a devoted caretaker, Connie Risper of Roanoke Rapids, NC; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and we couldn’t begin to name the many extraordinary family and friends, but that’s just how Rosetta Harvey would want it. You are either a family member or a friend, and most times, you were both.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at the Twilight Baptist Church in Weldon, North Carolina. The Pastor, Rev. Danny Jones, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery, William R. Davie School Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 24, 2015.
