Rev. Pattie Lou Alston Walker

Rev. Pattie Lou Alston Walker was born on December 6, 1921, in Littleton, North Carolina, and was the fourth of the twelve children of Ottawa Alston and Pattie Lou Turner Alston. She peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to the Heavenly realm on Sunday, December 31, 2017, at her home in Durham, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.

Pattie became a Christian during her early life and continued her spiritual journey to the very end. She was educated in the Warren County Public School System and graduated at the top of her high school class. She later received her Associate’s Degree in Theology with top honors from Union Christian Bible Institute and was ordained in the ministry in 1973.

Pattie was a member of the Community Baptist Church where she held many leadership roles. She also held leading roles in the Women’s Auxiliary of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Association, and of great significance was the fact that she was one of the first female ministers to serve both organizations in this capacity. Pattie was a spiritual counselor, mentor, and advisor who was greatly loved by all who knew her and those whose lives she touched in so many special ways.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Jackson Walker, on May 10, 2003, after sixty-seven years of marriage.

Loved ones surviving to forever treasure the precious memories of her love and wisdom are her four children, Lynwood J. Walker (Alice) and Annette C. W. Cheek (Dr. King V., Jr.) all of Durham, NC, Patricia W. Parker (Attorney H. Wallace) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Delores W. Pruitt of Wake Forest, NC; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Walker, Kevin Grady, King V. Cheek, III, Kahlil A. Cheek, Antoinette C. A. W. Cheek, Antoine Cheek (Dr. Alicia), Meriel S.
