RANDY LEE “ BUCK WHEAT” HARRIS was born to Mary E. Harris and Arthur L. Alston on November 11, 1979, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Randy’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, where he graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1999. During his career, he was employed at Hardee’s in Littleton, North Carolina, Coastal Lumber Company in Weldon, North Carolina, and for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Department as a Jailer. He also helped local farmers whenever he was needed. At the time of his death, he was employed with West Fraiser in Seaboard, North Carolina.
Randy enjoyed life and found great joy in fishing, working on his cars, playing basketball, and spending time with family and friends. He was a dedicated father of three children and a major presence in the lives of his family. He worked hard through the years to support his family and never complained. As a great friend to many, he was always available to lend a helping hand. His mild disposition, enjoyable personality, and a heart of gold will be forever remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
Randy was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Phillip Harris, Jr. and Pearline Harris; his paternal grandparents, Andrew and Pattie Alston; nine uncles, Clinton Harris, Jasper Harris, Homer Harris, Joseph Harris, Raymond Alston, Walter Alston, Haywood Alston, Bernard Alston, and Arthur Hawkins; three aunts, Pearlie Mae Harris, Lillian Coppage, and Mamie Alston; and one brother-in-law, Alan Exum.
Those remaining to treasure the beautiful memories of Randy’s lovable spirit are his fiancé, Vanessa Goode of the home; two daughters, Terriana and Maranda Goode of the home; one son, Malik Ransom of Pleasant Hill, NC; his mother, Mary Harris of Littleton, NC; his father, Arthur Alston, Sr. (Shirley) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sisters, Felicia Exum of Littleton, NC, Nikki Jefferson (Sapata) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Tawanna English (Rotwaun) of Greensboro, NC; three brothers, Gerald Harris of Littleton, NC, Arthur Alston, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Tyrone Alston (Michele) of Emporia, VA; two stepsisters, Kesha Hines of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Shannon Jackson (Lamont) of Salisbury, NC; one stepbrother, Otis Hines of Goldsboro, NC; eight aunts, Shelia Harris, Lilly Blue (Randy), Edna Caudle (Tony), Geraldine Hawkins, Lilly Barnes (Lloyd), Willie Mae Caudle, Louise Spraggins (Roscoe), and Ranoney Arrington; five uncles, Phillip Harris, Joseph Harris, Clinton Alston (Joyce), Larry Alston, and Waymond Alston; his fiance’ ‘s mother, Josie Goode of Weldon, NC; his fiancé ’s sister, Margaret Garner of Weldon, NC; his special friends, Travis Clark (Tina) and Hunter Denny all of Halifax, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many loyal friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Joseph Battle will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the funeral home.
