Pennina Dee Alston Hardy was born to the late George Washington Alston and Carrie Brown Alston on August 7, 1930, in Littleton, North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida.
During her early life, she professed faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in the Sunnyside Community of Littleton, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.
Dee was united in marriage to Jesse Hardy. This union was blessed with two children who preceded her in death. After relocating to New Jersey in the 1950’s, she met Jack and later gave birth to another child who also preceded her in death. She found spiritual comfort at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, New Jersey, where she remained a longstanding member.
After many years of employment with Dranetz Electronics Company in New Jersey, she retired and moved to Orlando, Florida, with her companion, David “Dave” Helmes. Dee loved entertaining, and her home was a staple for her family and friends. The “BBQs” she hosted were legendary! She enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos playing the “Pick-it”, taking photos of family and friends, collecting beautiful artifacts, and polishing her nails.
In addition to her parents and children, Dee was preceded in death by her five siblings, Junius, Robert, Annie, Helen, and Essie.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and to share the legacy of her love are her baby brother, Joe Alston; her life partner and best friend, David “Dave” Helmes; her stepdaughter, Jackie Helmes; her niece, Marilyn “Bunny” Hurdle; her nephew, Jim Faulcon; her great-niece, Tonyelle Thompson; her goddaughter, Muzette Williams; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she dearly loved. Dee will be sadly missed by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 43 Stansbury Road, Littleton, NC. Rev.
