Money Whitaker

MONEY WHITAKER was born to the late Henry Whitaker and Hattie Williams Whitaker on January 23, 1958, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this earthly life to enter eternal rest and peace on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Accordius Health at Creekside Care in Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Money gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He later became a member of the Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Money’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. He served in the Peace Corps where he learned an array of trades and skills that gave him the reputation as the community “Fix it” guy. He loved gardening, and working on heaters, cars, and lawn mowers. He was well-known for his bright smile, charming ways, enduring love for his family and friends, and his willingness to help a neighbor and a stranger in need.

On April 14, 2000, Money was united in marriage to the former Vanessa Ingram. This union was blessed with one daughter, Sha’Kira Whitaker.

In addition to his parents, Money was preceded in death by his siblings, Maggie Fleming, Eva Bowser, Beaulah Daniels, Tommie Whitaker, Clint Whitaker, Charlie Whitaker, and Pat Williams.

Those remaining to share the precious memories of his life and love are his daughter, Sha”Kira Whitaker of Roanoke Rapids, NC;  two sisters, Brenda Whitaker and Hattie Fleming of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one brother, Henry Whitaker of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two special nieces, Katara Whitaker and Felicia Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one devoted great-niece, Lanequie Lynch (Quincy) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, including his best friend, Willie D. Fleming; and his close friend, Reginald Webb (Linda) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 20, 2020, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 43 Stansbury Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. John Rooks will deliver the eulogy. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of persons in attendance. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 19, 2020, and only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
