MOLLIE ESTER BOWSER HOCKADAY, daughter of the late Joseph Edgar Bowser and Matilda Perkins Bowser, began her journey of life on this earth on July 21, 1921, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She answered God’s call to her heavenly home on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Signature Health Care of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
During her early life, she became a member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. Her formal education was received through the Halifax County Public School System.
Mollie was united in Holy Matrimony to Tennyson Hockaday, Sr. who preceded her in death on August 14, 2017. God blessed this union with eleven children. “Mom” was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Her favorite things to do were cooking, gardening, and going fishing. She also loved making clothes for her children and was always there for them whenever they needed her.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Tennyson Hockaday, Jr. and Linwood Louis Hockaday; one daughter, Mollie Ester “Sookie” Tate; and all of her siblings.
Those left to forever treasure every precious moment and memory of her life and love are her five daughters, Lorraine Hockaday Mayo and Alice Hockaday Moody of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Louise Hockaday Barron of Richmond, VA, Ida M. Hockaday Miles of Fayetteville, NC. And Bettie Hockaday Tidwell (Michael) of Kissimmee, FL; three sons, John E. Hockaday (Elsie) of Gaston, NC, Sidney Hockaday of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Fletcher Hockaday, Sr. (Evelyn) of Littleton, NC; twenty-four wonderful grandchildren; thirty-one precious great-grandchildren; ten adorable great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Ralph Hockaday of Richmond, VA; one sister-in-law, Jennie Hockaday Jones (Charles) of Washington, DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December 18, 2017, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 17, 2017, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
