MELVIN RAY “JOSH” ALSTON was born on May 3, 1952, in Littleton, North Carolina, to the late Josh Alston and Ethel Mae Warren Alston. He quietly departed this earthly life on Friday, November 17, 2017, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
During his early life, he accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from Northwest Halifax High School with the class of 1971.
“Josh” was employed with the Local Union 222 Construction Company of Camden, New Jersey and devoted numerous years of loyal service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clinton Alston and Jasper “Bone” Alston.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of his life and love are his wife, Tempie Alston; his daughter, Truvella Renee Alston; his twin sons, Trieg Alston and Troy Alston (Friendly), and Anthony Alston (Darlene); ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Leon Alston (Gerlie), Elizabeth Harvey, and Barbara Carter (Sandy); his sisters-in-law, Eva Settles, Connie Pulley (Stanley), Gloria Settles, Debra Settles, Delores Taylor (Nick) and Ella Alston; one uncle, Moses Burgess (Norma); one aunt, Mary F. Burgess; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Harry R. Carter, Jr. will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, November 24, 2017, from 12:00 Noon until 8:30 P.M. and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
