He was born to Carrie B. Alston Robinson and the late Maryland Eugene Robinson on January 14, 1966, in Halifax County, North Carolina.
During his early life, he was baptized and became a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System and he attended Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina. He served his country in the United States Army.
Melvin enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family members and friends, watching sports, and going fishing.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by two aunts, Laura Clanton and Daisy Harvey.
Those remaining to forever cherish the loving memories of his life are his devoted mother, Carrie B. Robinson of the home; his brother, Joe Robinson (Tammy Settles) of the home; his soulmate, Barbara Jean Gills of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his daughter, Sheshajarkey Gills of Roanoke Rapids, NC; five sons, Shacoty Gills (Ebony) of Fayetteville, NC, Tyerra Gills (Chrissy) of Florida, Zakgeyame Gills (Quetta) and Tiotta Gills of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Zijaware Gills (Teria) of New York; eleven grandchildren, five aunts, two uncles, two nieces, and a host of other relatives and many friends, including his loyal friend, Roy Grey Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 15, 2015, at the funeral home. Rev. Milton R. Solomon, Jr. will officiate, and burial will follow in the Odell Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home until 8:30 P.M. on Sunday, June 14, 2015.
