MARIA ROBINSON HICKS, affectionately known as “Honey Pie”, was born to the late Bernard “Buck” Robinson and Mattie “Peggy” Simms Robinson on October 19, 1936, in Warren County, North Carolina. She transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Tuesday November, 10, 2020, at Signature Health Care of Roanoke Rapids in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she later worked for Halifax County Schools until her retirement.
“Honey Pie” became a member of the Enon Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and served as an Usher for many years. She later joined the Love of God Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, was a Mother of the church, and remained a faithful member until her health declined.
On September 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to James Ruffin Hicks, who preceded her in death. She was the mother of five children.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, John Otis.
Loved ones remaining to cherish the precious memories of her life are her four daughters, Opal Pulley of Littleton, NC, Gloria Alston of Greensboro, NC, Vanette Dickey (Charles) of Darlington, SC, and Tracie Thompson of Jersey City, NJ; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 15, 2020, in the chapel of the funeral home. Elder William Bowser will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery in Littleton, NC. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by the wearing of mask, social distancing, and limiting the number of persons in attendance. A viewing will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, November 14, 2020, from 3:00 -5:00 P.M. Only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
