Mainer Wills Milam

MAINER WILLS MILAM, a longtime resident of Littleton, North Carolina, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at her home. She was born to the late Richard Allen Wills and Roxie Kearney Wills on November 19, 1931, in Halifax County, North Carolina.

Mainer was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina, and a dedicated supporter of the Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.

Mainer’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. She then furthered her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, and received her degree in Elementary Education and Home Economics. She was a proud NCCU EAGLES Alumna!

Mainer relocated to Willingboro Township, New Jersey, to teach Elementary Education until her retirement in 1996. She loved children and children loved her. After returning to Littleton, North Carolina, and settling into her new home, she continued to encourage and teach children, helped them with homework, introduced them to books from her collection, and also taught them to read and cook.

Mainer was active in helping the girl scouts with a service project to send bandages made from old clean sheets to war torn areas. She frequented the Senior Center in Littleton and was affectionately called “M&M”. She enjoyed helping others, cooking, sewing, gardening, spending time with family and friends, and continued these innovative missions until her health began to decline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Samuel and Robert Wills; and her sisters, Deborah W. Hagan, Doretha W. Robinson, Anmariah W. Johnston.

Her sweet spirit lives today and will be forever remembered by her children, Maria Milam, Kenneth Milam, and Pamela Milam; her grandson, Damon Milam; her great-grandson, Damon Milam, Jr.; her brothers, John P. Wills (Isabeller) and Jeremiah Wills (Elizabeth); her sisters, Delores W. Cooper, Eunice W. Burgess, and Louise W. Price; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who all loved her very much.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 6154 Bowers Road, Littleton, NC.  Rev. Will C. Tabron will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
