LOUIS “ELMO” HARRIS was born to the late Burrell Harris and Annie Mae Patillo Harris on July 28, 1933, at the old homesite in Henrico, North Carolina. “Elmo” was the grandson of Samuel and Lydia Harris and Austin and Juran Sykes Patillo. He was raised on the farms and always cherished his place of birth.

During the early 1950’s, “Elmo” relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, and on June 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Levi. This union was blessed with two daughters, Zada Seteria and Yasmin. After resettling in Harlem, New York, to care for his Aunt Zada, he met Joan Royster, and from this union three children were born, David, Cheryl, and Gary. “Elmo” was employed at Brille Surgical for over thirty years until he retired to Brentwood New York, with his devoted son, David.



            On Wednesday, April 23, 2019,“Elmo” passed away from cardiac arrest at his home in Brentwood, New York, at the age of eighty-five.

In addition to his parents, “Elmo” was preceded in death by his former wives, Shirley Levi Harris and Joan Royster Harris; his brothers, James Nelson, Randolph Wes, and Walter Powell; and his loving aunt, Zada Patillo Bush.

Those remaining to treasure the precious memory of his life and love are his children,

Zada (Craig), Yasmin, Chris, Cheryl, David and Gary; his stepchildren, Jean, Gerald, Beverly, and Allan; his sister, Zenobia; his sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, Penny, John, and Blythe; seven grandchildren: Yoveonka, Nakian, Torian, Keashauna, David, Jr., Devante, and Octavius; six great-grandchildren: Tasir, Logan, Skylett, Ananda, Anaya, and Logan; two loving nieces, Hope and Juran; five nephews: Darryl, Wes, Jr., Richard, Wilbur, and Antonio; and a host of cousins and friends, including a devoted friend, Joyce Barnes.



            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Patillo Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3119 River Road, Henrico, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Carroll R. Dickens, Sr., will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the ceremony.
