LOUIS COPPEDGE was born on August 25, 1930, in Littleton, North Carolina, to the late Jimmie Coppedge and Bertha Lee Coppedge. He answered God’s summon to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at Alaris Health Care Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.
During his early life, he professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he attended the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina.
Shortly after relocating to New York, New York, Louis met the love of his life and was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Bessie Alexander. God blessed this union with three children. He later settled in Jersey City, New Jersey, and became employed as a truck driver with a soft drink company where he remained dedicated until his retirement.
Louis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle whose gentle spirit, inspirational strength, and loving heart will always be remembered, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Cleveland.
Loved ones remaining to forever treasure the precious memory of his life and to celebrate the legacy of his love are his two daughters, Yvonne Coppedge (Leon) and Shelia Dorsey all of Altamonte, FL; two sons, Lawrence Coppedge of Greenville, NC, and Ronald Steele of Long Island, NY; eight grandchildren, Anita, Valarie, Noel, Anton, Marcy, Kimberly, Briana, and Kelia; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; his goddaughter, Nicole Coppedge of New Jersey; three brothers, James Coppedge of Warrenton, NC, Jessie Coppedge of New York, NY, and Willis Coppedge of The Bronx, NY; six sisters, Nellie Smith of Long Island, NY, Edith Coppedge, Emma Coppedge, and Ida Coppedge all of New York, NY, Carolyn West and Addie Alston (James) all of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, in the chapel, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. Andrew West will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery in Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, October 12, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M.
