Katie LaVerne Jackson was born to Mary V. Owens Jackson and the late James E. Jackson on November 20, 1958, in Brunswick County, Virginia. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia.
During her early life, she professed faith and belief in Jesus Christ at the Elams Chapel United Church of Christ in the Elams community of Littleton, North Carolina. She later joined the Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Henrico, North Carolina, and enjoyed serving as a church Trustee.
Katie received her formal education in the Brunswick County Public School System and attended Brunswick Senior High School in Lawrenceville, Virginia. She was employed with the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia, until declining health prevailed.
Katie loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing computer games, talking on the phone, listening to gospel music, and reading her Bible.
In addition to her father, Katie was also preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Jackson.
Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of her life are her daughter, Katrina Clayton of Henrico, NC; her two beautiful grandchildren whom she adored greatly, JaKiya and Jaysun Parham of Henrico, NC; her mother, Mary V. Owens Jackson of White Plains, VA; five sisters, Eloise Smith (Lloyd) of Richmond, VA, Clara Jackson of White Plains, VA, Nora Jackson and Rosalind Jackson of Richmond, VA, and JoAnne Brown of Florida; her god-sister, Elvelon Mason (Daryl) of Gaston, NC; nine brothers, Rudolph Jackson (Terri), James Jackson (Sandra), and Barron Jackson all of Philadelphia, PA, Lowell Jackson and Lanzy Jackson of White Plains, VA, Reginald Jackson of Fayetteville, PA, Bobby Jackson of Baltimore, MD, Gilbert Jackson (Mary) of Richmond, VA, and Julius Jackson of Lakewood, NJ; three aunts, Kate Patillo of Gaston, NC, Frances Jones of Snow Hill, NC, and Malissa Rankin of Henrico, NC; one uncle, John Owens of Asbury Park, NJ; three nieces, Casilla Campbell (Naim), LaTasha Jackson, and Lolita Thompson; two nephews, Nikita Jackson and Michael Jackson (Karla); four great-nieces, Lauren and Olivia Jackson, Kalimah Campbell, and Alana Jackson; two great-nephews, Caleb Reid and Jejuan Lee; and a host of cousins, other relatives and special close friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Charles Faulcon, Pastor of Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, will eulogize.
