Katherine Thomas Harrison peacefully departed this earthly life on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2020, in Charlotte, NC., where she was residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqui and Wayne Brown, since April of 2019. She was born to the late Ocy Thomas and Addie Beatrice Greene Thomas on December 31, 1928, in Warren County, NC., and was one of fifteen children.
Katherine, adoringly known as ‘Kathrie’, attended the Warren County Public Schools. She married the love of her life, John Woodley Harrison, Sr., on April 8, 1945. They later moved to Dorchester, MA., where she worked part-time and was a full-time loving wife and mother of five AND portrayed the role as a mother to many, many others.
Katherine loved the Lord and attended Charles Street Baptist Church in Dorchester, MA., She loved her community in Dorchester, MA. and enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the children play on our street and in the playground. She often reminisced about Fernboro Street, as recently as, up to the final weeks prior to her transition to be with her God.
Katherine and John retired and relocated to Littleton, NC., in 1991, where she joined Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church – the home church of her late husband, where he was a Trustee. She was a loyal and beloved member, serving on the hospitality committee, the missionary committee, as well as, a Deaconess since the late 1990s. She regularly and faithfully attended Sunday church services, Sunday school, and Bible study.
Relaxing in her rocking chair on her front porch at 413 Jessie Shearin Road was one of her most favorite pastimes. There are many memorable conversations shared by ALL on that porch…”WHAT’S SAID ON THE FRONT PORCH, STAYS ON THE FRONT PORCH!”
Our Beloved enjoyed the holidays, and family was priority to her. She looked forward to decorating for the holidays and making delicious festive meals and dishes. Katherine loved to entertain and cook. Her home and kitchen were open to anyone who rang her doorbell…She was always willing and eager to ‘stir something up’ for anyone to eat and also offered a comfortable bed and bath for those who traveled to visit her. Her delicious signature cheese and eggs, hot biscuits, hearty winter soups, homemade cakes and pies, and the smell of her country morning breakfast coming from her kitchen will be DEEPLY missed.
In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, John Woodley Harrison, Sr.; her daughter, Linda Marie Harrison Adams; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and eight siblings.
