get-attachment.aspxJOYCE SERENA BROWN BASS went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.  She was born to the late Juanita Brown on  November 19, 1945, in Franklin, Virginia.

Joyce graduated from George Tyler High School in Winsor, Virginia. After relocating to Norfolk, Virginia, she attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia, although most of her life was spent in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Joyce loved the Lord and touched the lives of many people. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who was truly dedicated to her entire family. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, dancing, and talking on her phone. If she were riding with someone and had forgotten her phone, she would say, “Turn around, I got to go get my phone”. She will be always remembered and dearly missed by everyone whose life she touched in so many special ways.

In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Perry.

Those left to forever cherish the precious memories of her life are her three devoted children, Aimee Bass Young (Devon), Cassell Bass, Jr. (Angela), and Serena Bass Tompkins; eleven grandchildren, Brittney Tompkins (Donald), Brooke Tompkins (Terrence), Malik Carson, Jr., Cassell Bass III, Ciara Bass (Alonzo, Jr.), Caden Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Evan Young, Ethan Young, Mary Martin, and Taylor Martin; four great-grandchildren, Ayden, Syncere, Alonzo, Jr., and Messiah; two sisters, Gartred Clements (Edward) and Varnetta Edwards; one brother, Ruben Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss the enjoyable  times they shared with Joyce.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, August 11, 2014, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC. Rev. John Rooks will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery, Davie School Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, August 10, 2014, from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.
