Joseph S. “Joe” Edwards


Joseph Stanley “Joe” Edwards was born to the late Naomi Edwards on October 23, 1950, in Halifax County, North Carolina, and departed this earthly life to live in eternity with his Heavenly Father on March 31, 2014, at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was reared in Littleton, North Carolina, and became a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church during his early life. His formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County where he attended the former McIver High School. He later relocated to Orange, New Jersey to live with his uncle, James H. Edwards, to seek employment.

“Joe” was a lifelong mechanic and retired in 2013, after many years of devoted service to his profession. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the Newark Knights Motorcycle Club.

He was a fun person to be around and everyone who knew him loved him. He was unselfish, shared what he had with a giving heart, and would speak his mind on any subject put before him.

In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his uncle, whom he loved as a father, James H. Edwards.

Those left to forever treasure the legacy of his life and share precious memories are his wife of forty-two years, Noreen Cohen Edwards; three daughters, Kimberly Green (Malik) of Richmond, VA, Tasha Cohen and Dineen Cohen of New Jersey; one granddaughter, whom he loved with all his heart, Breanna Green of Richmond, VA; two loving brothers, Alvin Edwards of Littleton, NC, and Johnny Michael Edwards (Karen) of Union, NJ; one sister, Brenda E. Young of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his cousin who was reared as his brother, Larry Edwards (Teresa); four nieces, Tracy, Danielle, Kiaria, and Megan; two nephews, Thomas and Alex; one great-nephew, Jaden; one aunt, Addie Edwards of Littleton, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who will all greatly miss his earthly presence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 11, 2014, in the chapel of the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Vernon Bryant will eulogize, and burial will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home until 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
