Joe Clanton, Jr., affectionately known as “Little Joe”, was born to the late Joe Clanton, Sr. and Sallie Beth Cunion Clanton on September 17, 1929, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Magnolia Gardens of Warrenton, in Warrenton, North Carolina.
During his early life, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the public school system of Halifax County.
On March 30, 1948, Joe was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Josephine B. Vincent, who was born on the same date and year that he was born. God blessed this union with five children.
He was employed for numerous years with Salmon and Stansbury Lumber Mill and retired from the South Hill Lumber Mill in South Hill, Virginia. His favorite hobbies included fishing and hunting. He also loved working on cars and anything else that could be taken apart and put together again.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Lee and Sarah Jane; his seven brothers, Arthur, Leroy, Earl, Lynburgh, Percy, William and Floyd; and his two daughters, Elsie and Janiece Wilkins.
Those remaining to forever find joy in the treasured memories of his life are his loving, devoted wife of sixty-six years, Josephine B. Clanton of the home; one daughter, Doriece McMorris (Harold) of Newberry, SC; three sons, Alvin R. Clanton (Natalie) of Benson, NC, Joe Elton Clanton of the home, and Steve Jones (Lee Ann) of Columbus, GA; one brother-in-law, Glenn Thomas of Littleton, NC; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 17, 2014, in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Clinton Boyd will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home until 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
