Jessie “Steve” Harvey

JESSIE “Steve” HARVEY, son of the late James Ellis Harvey, Sr. and Mary Williams Harvey, was born on April 19, 1966, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, May 1, 2020, at his home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

During his early life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton, NC, where he remained in membership until his demise.

Jessie’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he then became employed at the former J. P Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, until the plant closed. Afterward, he worked for Georgia-Pacific in Emporia, Virginia, and was loyal and dedicated for seventeen years.

On April 19, 1988, Jessie chose his birthday to be united in Holy Matrimony to the former Roselyn Browning.

“Steve”, as he was called by those who knew him, was a loving, caring person who held a special place in his heart for his children, grandchildren, and family members. He would give his last to help a friend.

In addition to his parents, Jessie was preceded in death by his siblings, Corine “Bott” Harvey, Mary Jane Whitaker, Linwood Harvey, Marcia Marie Ruffin, William Harvey, and Thomas Harvey; five brothers-in-law, Clint “Bo” Whitaker,  Alexander Ruffin, Dennis Browning, Glenn Ashe, and Eddie Norman; two sisters-in-law, Linda Harvey and Dorothy Ashe.

Those remaining to forever treasure the memory of his love are his devoted wife, Roselyn Harvey; two sons, Justin Harvey and Jayquan Harvey; one daughter, Jessica Harvey; four precious grandchildren, Jhakyren, Journee, Jaziyah, and Corlani; two caring sisters, Beverly Norman and Sue Arrington of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one brother, James Harvey, Jr. (Carolyn) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one aunt, Gladys Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his supportive mother-in-law who loved him dearly, Hattie Browning of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his father-in-law, Douglas Ashe of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three other sisters-in-law, Brenda Ashe, Dot Whitaker, and Betty Daniels; four brothers-in-law, Herbert Browning, Douglas Ashe, Edward Whitaker, and Doug Burgess  all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, including his special friends, Ulysses Harvey, Zach Manning, and Thomas Jones.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 10, 2020, at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 127 Rock House Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. Christopher Mallory will deliver the eulogy. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of persons in attendance.  A viewing will be held from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
