Jesse Coppedge, Sr.

JESSE COPPEDGE, SR., better known as “Good Time Charlie”, was born to the late Jimmie Coppedge and Bertha Lee Coppedge on December 24, 1937, in the town of Littleton, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Harlem Hospital, New York City, New York.

During his early life, Jesse accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of the Odell Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, under the leadership of the late Rev. C. Scott.

Jesse’s  formal education was received in the Halifax and Warren County Public School Systems. He grew up in humble beginnings on the farm and later became employed in the logging industry, and then at the former J.P. Stevens and Company of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. When he relocated to New York City, New York, he worked as a security guard and also in construction.

Jesse was loved by many and was a good father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was always there when you needed him. “Good Time Charlie” had a certain way about himself. He was amazing, proud, modest, hilarious, and oh, such a smooth, great dresser who loved his white t-shirts. Jesse  loved baseball, just don’t call him while the game was on or you would be in big trouble!  He loved to walk, and he loved cold weather. Just as the weather is “cool”, Jesse was a “Kool” person and a true comedian. We love and miss you, “JC”.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Thomas, James, and Cleveland Coppedge.

Those loved ones left to forever cherish his precious memory and celebrate the legacy of his life and love are his six children, Christine Taylor of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Jesse Coppedge, Jr.(mariliz) of York, PA, Patricia Byrd of Fayetteville, NC, Oliver Thomas (Claretta) of Addor, NC, Marsha Coppedge of New York, NY, and Greg Walker of Bronx, NY; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Willis Coppedge of Bronx, NY; six sisters, Nellie Smith of Queens Long Island, NY, Edith Coppedge, Emma Coppedge, and Ida Coppedge all of New York, New York, Carolyn West and Addie Alston (James) all of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.
