JEROME BURNETTE was born to Lois Jones Burnette and the late Joe Burnette, Jr. on May 2, 1956, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He quietly transitioned from this earthly life to everlasting peace on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids. North Carolina.
During his early life, Jerome accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized, and joined the London Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1974.
Jerome enjoyed singing, spending time with his family and friends, and sitting on the front porch being a security guard watching traffic. His jovial manner and loving, contagious spirit endeared him to those whose lives he touched in so many special ways, and he carved himself a place in their hearts that will always memorialize his life.
In addition to his father, Jerome was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Granville and Carrie Jones; his paternal grandparents, Joe and Laura Burnette; his uncles, Charlie Burnette, Ulysses Burnette, and David Lee Jones; and his aunt, Barbara Jones.
His sweet spirit lives today and forever more in the hearts and minds of his loving mother, Lois Burnette of the home; two sisters, Karen Burnette of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Twanna Burnette of the home; one brother, David Burnette of Raleigh, NC; five nephews, Omari Burnette and Jamie Burnette of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Maceo, George, and Davel Burnette all of Warrenton, NC; three great-nephews, a son of the heart, Saquan Burnette, of the home, and Maceo, Jr. and Davel Lonell of Warrenton, NC; two great-nieces, Lakia Hedgepeth of Nashville, NC, and Ashanti Davis of Warrenton, NC; his uncles, Horace Burnette (Mavis), Jessie Burnette, and Granville Jones (Lillie) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, John Burnette (Mary) of Forest Heights, MD, and Earl Jones (Notre) of Raleigh, NC; his aunt, Hazel Mills of Fort Washington, MD; his sister of the heart, Annie Henderson of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his adopted Mom and Dad, Harvey and Barbara Peters of Littleton, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends, including his special friends, Kenneth Powers, Ronald Jefferies, and Teddy Harville.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the London Missionary Baptist Church, 3386 US Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Elbert Lee, will officiate, and Rev. Danny Jones will preside. Burial will follow in the Burnette Family Cemetery, Thelma Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home on Friday, November 16, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
