JAMES COPPEDGE, JR., affectionately called “Mr. Copasetic”, was born to the late Jimmie Coppedge and Bertha Lee Coppedge on November 19, 1933, in Warren County, Littleton, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life of Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Warren Hills Nursing Center in Warrenton, North Carolina.
During his early life, James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Whitaker.
His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. In 1957, he relocated to New York City, and became employed with the steel company. He later worked in the construction industry.
James met the love of his life, Marilyn Smith, and God blessed this union with three children. In 1967, he returned to his home in Littleton, North Carolina, where he remained until his health declined, and he spent the rest of his years at Warren Hills Nursing Center in Warrenton, North Carolina.
James was a great, great father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. His kindness, willingness to help others, and loyal friendship will be greatly missed and forever remembered by those whose life he touched in so many special ways.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, Thomas and Cleveland Coppedge.
Loved ones left to cherish his precious memory and celebrate the legacy of his life and love are his three children, Cynthia Smith, Patricia Smith, and Jonathan Smith; two brothers, Jesse Coppedge of New York, NY, and Willis Coppedge of The Bronx, NY; six sisters, Nellie Smith of Long Island, NY, Edith Coppedge, Emma Coppedge, and Ida Coppedge all of New York, NY, and Carolyn West and Addie Alston (James) all of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. Rev. Andrew West will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery, Littleton, NC. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, July 26, 2019.
