On Monday, April 13, 2020, HENRY CORNELIUS “BRO” PETERS transitioned from this earthly life and entered the Heavenly realm at Vidant North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was born on April 14, 1936, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Harold Whit Peters, Sr. and Sylvester Zollicoffer Peters and was the sixth of eight children.
His spiritual journey began at the Fidelity Baptist Church in the Summit Community of Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he attended the former Print School also in the Summit Community of Littleton, North Carolina.
At the age of nineteen, “Bro” relocated to Amityville, New York, and obtained his first employment at South Oaks Hospital. He later ventured into entrepreneurship and started his own lawn care company. His last employment was with his cousin, William Rice, at Rice’s Whirlpool where he remained until returning home to North Carolina, in 2004.
“Bro” met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to the former Lorena Daniely, who preceded him in death. “Bro” had seven beautiful children, Brian Johnson, Donnell Tabron, Monika Peters, Sylvia “Chrissy” Peters, Jocklyn Peters Holmes, Regina Peters Myers, Charles Peters, and he loved many more.
“Bro” had a loving spirit and stayed mostly to himself. He loved fishing, farming, and enjoying the great outdoors. His strong work ethic, his distinct manner of expression, his hearty laughter, his sense of humor, and his sustaining words of wisdom will all be preserved as a legacy for generations to come.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by two children, Charles Peters and Sylvia Peters; four brothers, James Johnson, William Johnson, Earlie Johnson, Sr., and Harold Peters; and one sister, Helen Peters Foots.
Those remaining to forever cherish the precious of his life and love are his children, Brian Johnson, Donnell Tabron (Carolina), Monika Peters, Jocklyn Peters Holmes (Dexter), and Regina Myers (Vincent); his loving grandchildren, Mia-liani Patterson, Latoya Robinson, Latisha Ingram, Tahlia Jolicoeur, Kenya Jolicoeur, Dexter Holmes, Jr., Derrick Holmes, De-Sire Peters, LaTasha Peters, Christopher Johnson, and Denzell Johnson; a great-niece who he loved as his own, Selene Miller; his sister, Barbara Peters Jones (Garnsey); his brother, Harvey Peters (Barbara); three other sisters-in-law, Evelyn Johnson Alexander, Mable Johnson, and Frances Johnson; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends, including his caring, longtime friends, Brenda Rhodes and family, William and Ophelia Johnson and family.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Fidelity Baptist Church Cemetery, 627 Summit Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. John Rooks will deliver the eulogy. Because of Covid-19, CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of people in attendance. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 17, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. and only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
