HENRY “BUDDY” SLEDGE, JR. was born to the late Henry Sledge, Sr. and Mae Bell Nicholson Sledge on June 17, 1950. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at his home in Littleton, North Carolina.
Henry received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System. During his early life, he became a member of the South Street Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and in later years, joined the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.
Henry enjoyed socializing, sharing with others, helping those in need, spreading friendship to everyone he met, and reminiscing about the “Good Old Times”. He was also affectionately called “Crook”, and when he was driving his Cadillac, he was known as “Boss Hog”.
Henry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Daphine Jefferson Sledge. He was an amazing husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a genuine friend to many, and was always so full of life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Magdalene “Betty Lue” Sledge Taylor and Gladys Marie Sledge Davis.
Those left with loving memories to forever cherish are his wife, Daphine Sledge of the home; his daughter, Judy Taylor-Jefferson (Albert, stepson) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three other stepchildren, Leonard Jefferson of the home, James Jefferson (Tammy) of Maryland, and Eva Faulcon of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one sister, Gloria “Bro” Sledge Pitchford of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, September 20, 2019, at the Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1991 Roanoke Chapel Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Timothy Edwards, will deliver the eulogy.
