FRANCES VERNELL MASSENBURG PARSON was born to the late Clyde Massenburg and Francessa Alston Massenburg on April 6, 1948, in Littleton, North Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 10, 2020, in the comfort of her home in Littleton, North Carolina, in the presence of her loving family.
At the age of nine, Frances “Vermel” gave her life to the Lord, was baptized, and became a member of the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina.
While living in Brooklyn, New York, Frances “Vermel” met Lawrence “Larry” Parson. They were united in Holy Matrimony in August 1969, and relocated to Whiteville, North Carolina. This union was blessed with one daughter. She was a devoted wife and mother who believed in hard work.
Frances “Vermel” became a dedicated member of the Diamond Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Whiteville, North Carolina. In the 1970’s and 80’s, she was active on the Usher Board, the Senior Choir, the church kitchen committee, and also served as church secretary.
Her loyal service as Supervisor of Smithfield Packaging led to her retirement. She then returned to Littleton, North Carolina, and reunited with the Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Frances “Vermel” continued the Lord’s work serving on the Usher Board, Program Committee, and the Missionary Circle.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frances “Vermel” was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Oliver Massenburg.
Treasured memories of her life and love will forever remain in the hearts and minds of her daughters, Sonya Anita Parson-Morris (Ray) and Saundra Yvonne Canada (Walter); three grandchildren, Sanaya, Rashaunda, and Ramon; three great-grandchildren, Wayne, Raziyah, and Rah’Kel; her sisters, Selma Helms and Velma Ruth Brinkley both of Littleton, NC, and Doris Alston of Brooklyn, New York; her brother, James Conzell Massenburg of Griffin, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at the Pleasant Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 590 Enterprise Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. Dr. Angeline Brinkley will deliver the eulogy. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of persons in attendance. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 15, 2020, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
