EVANGELIST CATHERINE PARKER HICKS was born on November 11, 1936, to the late Mary Manning Parker Weathers and Ernest Parker of Kenly, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at Signature Healthcare of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
At an early age, she worshipped at Mincey Chapel F.W. B. Church with her mother and grandfather, the Rev. Leonard Paul Manning. Later in life, she was baptized, filled with the Holy Spirit, and became a faithful member of the Apostolic Faith, worshipping Christ in truth and in spirit as an ordained Evangelist.
On July 26, 1952, she was united in marriage to Junius “Red” Hicks. This union was blessed with six children. She was a devoted mother and wife who believed in hard work. With this determination, she made a good home for her husband, children, and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junius “Red” Hicks, Sr.; one son, Junius “Poolie” Hicks, Jr.; and four brothers.
Treasured memories of her life and love will forever remain in the hearts of her five children, Sandra Hopkins, Faye Nicholson, Robert Hicks, Dwight Hicks (Sharicka), and Keith Hicks (Prelldeen G.); twenty-four grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Christine Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at the Robinson Cemetery of Littleton, NC. Rev. Danny Jones will officiate. Because of Covid-19, the CDC guidelines will be followed for all services by limiting the number of persons in attendance. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 1, 2020, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. Only five persons will be allowed to enter at any one time.
