Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and she attended the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina. She resided in a farming community, became highly skilled in gardening, and also taught others to garden. The look of a tiny seed was her joy as it produced plants and vegetables.
Edna first relocated to Florida with her family and later settled in Washington, DC, where she became a member of the Bible Way Church and sang in the choir. Bishop Smallwood Williams, the Word of God, and biblical teachings led her to ask for forgiveness and dedicate her life to the Lord. She also served as vice-president of the Social Circle at the Golden Rule Apartments and was a member of the Mustard Seen Faith Investment Club.
Edna became employed at several jobs in the United States Senate Building and became an assistant at Rhines Funeral Home. She discovered her passion in family care as a Home Health Care aide, and achieved the education and experience to become an entrepreneur in the health care business.
Edna felt good about North Carolina and Florida and maintained contacts as she sincerely cherished her family in both locations. She had also lived in Newport News, Virginia, and New York City.
Edna had a charged and spunky approach to life, enjoyed preparing and sharing home cooked meals, gardening, serving God, and singing one of her favorite hymns, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death two brothers, Willie Cook and Donnie Roy Cook.
Those remaining to forever cherish the precious memory of her life and to share the legacy of her love are her son, Walter Edward Cook (Wilnette); her brother, Charlie Edward Cook, Jr.; her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many loving friends, neighbors, and her care assistant, Ms. Price.
