Deacon Charles Thomas “Buck” Wilcox was born to Mary Jarrell Wilcox and the late Henry Wilcox on March 20, 1949, in Halifax County, North Carolina, and answered God’s call to eternal rest and peace on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at his home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
During his early life, he professed faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and became a faithful member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He served as chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry, sang with the Male Chorus, and was a member of the Pastor’s Esteem.
His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from the former McIver High School in Littleton, North Carolina, with the class of 1967. He became employed with North Carolina Power Company (Dominion) and retired as an Auxiliary Operator after thirty-eight years of dedicated service. He also retired as a member of the Davie Volunteer Fire Department of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Charles especially loved spending special times with his family, and he also enjoyed watching and attending wrestling matches, watching NASCAR racing, fishing, hunting squirrels in his back yard, and accompanying his Pastor on visits to the sick and shut-in.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Tony Wilcox, and his brother, Buffie Donnell Wilcox.
Those remaining to forever share the precious memories of his life and honor the defined strength of his character are his loving wife, Alice Hunt Wilcox, of the home; his mother, Mary J. Wilcox of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his children, Charletta Wilcox and Tonia Lashley of the home, Steve Wilcox (Stephanie), Arnetta Boyd (Donald), Phyllis Caine (Johnnie), Tamatha Faulcon (Marvin), and Alicia Lashley all of Littleton, NC, and Stacey Phipps (Amy) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his grandchildren, Morgan (Jeremy), Ryan, Dominique, Ja’Quan, Cierra, Malik, Kyndahl, Destiny, Jarik, Tyler, MacKenzie, Sienna Faith, and Errin; his siblings, Leon Wilcox (Gladys) and Cornelia Wilcox of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Della Ford of York, PA, Edith Wiggins (Jerald) of Richmond, VA, and Tonya Wilcox of Baltimore, MD; another daughter-in-law, Nelsie Wilcox of Jersey City, NJ; his uncle, Willie Jarrell (Carolyn) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; other sisters-in-law, Patricia Wilcox of Fayetteville, NC, Melissa Smith of Greenville, NC, and Edith Hunt of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his best friend and traveling companion, Rev. Dr. C.E. McCollum; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other in-laws, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. C.E. McCollum, will officiate, and burial will follow in the Wilcox Family Cemetery in the Thelma Community, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, December 21, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
