Darrel Renard Alston

The world was made brighter on October 7, 1965 when T. C. and Sandra Alston gave birth to a second male child and named him DARREL RENARD. Little did they know that this child would go far, do a lot, and accomplish much. He began his earthly journey by accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the family church, South Street Missionary Baptist Church. His formal education was attained through the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina and John Tyler Community College of Chester, Virginia, where he obtained his GED.

Those who knew Darrel knew that he absolutely did not live life within the confines of a box. Darrel married Vershall Carter, and made Richmond, Virginia his home for many years. He was an open minded and free-spirited person with strong will and determination in that when he put his mind to doing something, he was not going to stop until it was done, no matter how long it took him. His heart was his dogs, Xena, Pixi, and Max. Some may remember Darrel as owner of The Wise Choice. Others may remember him as the self-employed home improvement specialist. Most recently, to everyone’s surprise, Darrel was a professional commercial truck driver with Prime, Inc. and proprietor of Alston’s Transport, LLC based out of Springfield, Missouri. His earthly journey was completed on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia where he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his father, T.C.; his niece, Kaelin; and both sets of grandparents.

Left behind to cherish the memories of “Horse Collar”are his children, Issac, Sr. (Jasmine) and Daynika; his grandchildren, Issac, Jr. and Illyssa; his mother, Sandra; his brothers, Daffery, Gregory (Robin), and Lloyd “Bop” (Andrea); his nieces, Shanique, Yasmin, and Jaelin; his nephew, Donovan; eight aunts and uncles; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
