Charlie Hawkins, Jr.

CHARLIE HAWKINS, JR. was born to the late Charlie Hawkins, Sr. and Swannee Carter Hawkins on April 12, 1924, in Littleton, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life in the comfort of his home in Littleton, North Carolina, on Friday, September 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie grew up in the Olive Grove Community of Littleton, North Carolina, and was reared in a close-knit family of nine brothers and sisters.  Upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ, he joined the Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, during his early life. His formal education was received in the Warren County Public School System.

Charlie was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Virginia Alston. She preceded him in death after being married for sixty-nine years. God blessed this union with four sons and one daughter. Their daughter, Norma Hawkins Moore, also preceded him in death.

Charlie was employed at the former J.P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and remained loyal to his profession until he retired. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He often told many stories about his adventures during his tour of duty.

In addition to his parents, wife, and daughter, Charlie was predeceased by eight siblings: Gladys, Georgia, Ester, Ann, John, Herbert, Loyd, and Pattie.

Those remaining to forever treasure the precious memories of his life and to share the legacy of his love are his four sons, Charles D. Hawkins of the home, John J. Hawkins (Carolyn) of Wake Forest, NC, Stanley M. Hawkins (Toby) of Louisburg, NC, and Barry M. Hawkins (Miyako) of Japan; his twelve grandchildren, Ron, Anthony (Jomesha), Cedric (Alicia), Shanesha, Sean (Lumiere), Ian, Barry, Jr., Garrett, Hunter, Savanna, Jaime, and Alia; his eight great-grandchildren, Ron, Branden, Taylor, Eli, Ethan, Joyous, Canah, and Laila; one great-great-grandchild, Makaio; his brother-in-law, Fred Carter of Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 915 Eaton Ferry Road, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Charles E. Walton will deliver the eulogy, and Rev. Kerry Hawkins will preside. The body will repose at the funeral home from 3:00 P.M. – 8:30 P.M.  on Friday, October 6, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
