Charles Lee Johnson

CHARLES LEE JOHNSON, son of the late Horace Johnson and Rebecca Neville Johnson, was born on January 6, 1947, in Enfield, North Carolina. After a lengthy battle with illness, God quietly called him to eternal rest and peace on Monday, November 18, 2019, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Charles received his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System and  graduated from the former Eastman High School in Enfield, North Carolina. During his early life, he professed faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina, where he attended regularly.

Charles held many jobs during his lifetime, but his most loved profession was working as a chef in New York City until his retirement.

Wherever Charles went, a good time was sure to follow. He will be forever remembered for his good sense of humor and his keen ability to keep everyone in stitches from laughter. He had a great love for shopping, taking trips, telling jokes, and collecting Yankee Baseball caps.

In addition to his parents, Charles will be reunited with his siblings, George, Sherman, Jessie, Johnny, and Tina; and a host of other loved ones in Heaven.

Those remaining, not to mourn, but to cherish the precious memory of his life and love are his children, Charles D. Johnson and Quataishua Graham both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his grandchildren, Charles D. Johnson, Jr., and Harlym Powell also of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three sisters, Shirley Bailey of Littleton, NC, his twin sister, Kerley Armstrong, and Velma Broadhurst both of Bronx, NY; one brother, Edward F. Johnson of Dover, DE; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 25525 NC Highway 561, Enfield, NC. Rev. Basil Dorsey Williams will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Monday, November 25, 2019, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.  The body may also be viewed at the church for one prior to the funeral time.
