Wilson Standley “Bouge” Hawkins

WILSON STANDLEY “BOUGE”HAWKINS, son of the late Jimmie Hawkins, Sr. and Lucy Ellen Harvey Hawkins, was born on February 4, 1951, in Halifax County North Carolina. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Monday, January 22, 2018, in the serenity of his home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.

Wilson was a faithful member of the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System, and he graduated from Northwest Halifax High School at William R. Davie  with the class of 1972. He retired from the former Kennametal in Weldon, North Carolina, after twenty-nine years of loyal, dedicated service.

Wilson had a great passion for cooking, and he loved to share his “Top Chef” skills with family and friends who always enjoyed the delicious meals he prepared.

In addition to his parents, Wilson was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Green, Deloris H. Robinson, and Kate M. Tucker; and one brother, Vernon McCray Hawkins.

Those loved ones left with treasured and pleasant memories of his life and love are his six sisters, Pearlie Edmonds (James), Helen Davis (Buster), Ethelene Burgess (Dennis), Lucille Hawkins of the home, and Priscilla Joyner all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Minnie Rice (Jake) of Garysburg, NC; five brothers, Jimmie Hawkins, Jr. of Brownmill, NJ, and Sam Hawkins (Vicki), Johnnie Hawkins (Marcella), Eddie Hawkins, and a special brother, Joe Mack Hawkins (Gloria) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his devoted cousin, Beverly Ann Norman; his three dear neighbors and friends, Lillian Turner, Quentana Daniels, and Dozene Lynch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will all miss his earthly presence and the special ways he touched each of their lives.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. Rev. John R. Rooks will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home on Saturday, January 27, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M., with the family receiving friends from 7:00 -8:00 P.M.
