WILLIE JONES, JR., affectionately known as “Peter”, was born to the late Willie Jones, Sr. and Crite Bowser Jones on January 18, 1946, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Willie grew up in the Butterwood Community of Littleton, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.
In December 1972, Willie was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Vivian Louise Brown. God blessed this union with two children, and they also raised a dear nephew.
Willie served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. He then became employed with Thompson Concrete and Safe-lite Glass Factory, and later worked tirelessly as a Diesel Mechanic and Welder, trades he learned while in the Army. He was always willing to teach others what he knew and would help people any way he could. His legacy of hard work, straight talk and genuine compassion will always be remembered by those whose lives he impacted in so many different ways.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his father and mother–in-law, Alvin and Louise Brown; and his sisters-in-law, Martha B. Lee and Mary B. Kearney.
Those remaining to forever memorialize his life and legacy are his wife, Vivian B. Jones of the home; his daughter, Stephanie D. Jones of Durham, NC; his son, Cornelius P. Jones (Danielle) of Raleigh, NC; his special nephew, Anthony C. Burnette of Aulander, NC; his brothers-in-law, Milton, Albert, Richard, and Joseph Brown (Jacqueline), Ronald Lee, and Randolph Kearney; and a host of nieces, other nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1089 Piney Grove Church Road, Littleton, NC. Rev. John Rooks will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 3:00 – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, April 20, 2018, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
