Vivian Delois Stansbury Garner

VIVIAN DELOIS STANSBURY GARNER was born on February 28, 1950, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Leslie Stansbury and Mary Alston Stansbury. She peacefully transitioned from this earthly life and entered her Heavenly home on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at her home in Littleton, North Carolina, surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Vivian, also known as “Red”, accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, was baptized, and joined the Cornerstone Holiness Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She later moved her membership to the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and remained a faithful servant until ill health prevailed.

Vivian’s formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. She became employed as a cook at the former Mordecai’s restaurant in Littleton, North Carolina, for numerous years, and also worked as a private sitter for the elderly until her health declined. She enjoyed singing, helping others, playing the lotto, going to the casino, and cooking for her family and friends. She never met a stranger and was loved by so many.

In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by her daughter, Tracy A. Garner; her only brother, Link Stansbury; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.

Those left to forever treasure the precious memories of her life and love are her husband, Ervin G. Thomas of the home; her children, Claude Garner (Cynthia) of McDonough, GA, James Garner (Delois) and Lisa Garner (Omar) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Jarvis Garner (Shante) of Littleton, NC, and Leslie Garner of the home; her sisters, Caroline Lee of Emporia, VA, Ella Alston (Lewis), and Brenda Alston (Ronald) all of Littleton, NC, Mary Lee (George) of Skippers, VA, and Shelia Williams (Herbert) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one aunt, Dorothy Hicks of Hampton, VA, eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; two very special friends, Daisy and Arlene; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. C, E, McCollum will deliver the eulogy,
