Viola Mae “Vi” Johnson Kearney

RFH_Picture Viola Mae “Vi” Johnson Kearney, daughter of the late Eugene Johnson and Matilda Snow Johnson, was born on May 19, 1919, in Nash County, North Carolina. On Monday, July 28, 2014, she departed this earthly life at her home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.

During her early life, she professed faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and joined the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She received her formal education in the Nash County and Warren County Public School Systems.

“Vi” was united in Holy Matrimony to the Reverend John E. Kearney, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Joyce B. Kearney; one great-grandson, Treyshawn S. Robinson; three sisters, Jane Ruth Johnson, Magnolia Johnson, and Hattie Johnson; and one step-grandson, Terry Randolph.

Everlasting and treasured memories of her life and love will forever remain in the hearts and minds of her son, Robert Lee Kearney (Louise) of Brooklyn, NY, and her loving, devoted daughter, Minister Ernestine Kearney of Rocky Mount, NC; six granddaughters, Robin B. Kearney-Reid (Romano) of Brooklyn, NY, Sheila L. Kearney and Latina M. Kearney of Queens, NT, Robin S. Brown and Candace R. Kearney of Rocky Mount, NC, and Joy R. Kearney of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one grandson, Robert A. Kearney of Marietta, GA; seven great-grandsons, Anthony Kearney, Anthony L. Davis, Jr., Dreyshawn R. Robinson, Robert Kearney, Jr., Keon Kearney, Jamarcus Worthington, and Jayceon Z. Brooks-Kearney; three great-granddaughters, Laquasha S. Labad, Brianna M. Labad, and Taedria M. Kearney; one step-grandson, Freddie Randolph of Brooklyn, NY; her sister, Irene Holmes of Brooklyn, NY; one nephew, Melvin Holmes of Queens, NY; one niece, Deanie Mae Carter of Littleton, NC; five great-nephews, Lane C. Carter and Samuel M. Carter of Littleton, NC, Daniel Melvin Millien of North Lauderdale, FL, Melvin Eric Holmes and Bryan Neil Holmes of Queens, NY; and a host of great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the Pleasant Zion Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Clinton Boyd, will eulogize, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, July 31, 2014, from 7:00-8:00 P.M. at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, who is in charge of arrangements.
