VICKIE MONTEZ USSERY entered into this world on August 11, 1958. His earthly pilgrimage ended on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, as he was called to his eternal home.
Vickie was preceded in death by his beautiful, loving, and faithful wife of twenty-six years, Ronda Faye Ussery; his parents, Reynold Byrd, Sr., Annie Ussery Hill, and William Hill; four sisters, Deborah L. Byrd, Darlene G. Byrd, Brenda Williams, and Janice Gordon; and one brother, Tony Hill.
Vickie was reared in Greensville County, Virginia, where he received his formal education. He began his employment career at Weldon Mills in Emporia, Virginia, and served as an inventory control specialist. After nineteen years of dedicated service, he ventured out to establish his own trucking company, Ussery Trucking, where he was a self-employed truck driver. Throughout the years, as his health permitted, he truly enjoyed working closely with his dear cousin, Collossie Byrd at Byrd Garage.
To know Vickie was to love him and to know that he was probably one of the hardest working men you would ever meet. He was fun, giving, and caring. He loved a good action movie with surround sound, the latest electronic devices, (and No, yours was Not better), and R&B Soul music of the 1970s, with his favorite artist being the one and only, Chaka Khan.
Those remaining to forever cherish the memory of his life and the legacy of his love are his four beautiful daughters, LaTasha Johnson (Daniel) of Virginia, Semiko Ussery Green (Kendrick) of Texas, and Arel Moore (Willie) and Danielle Washington ( Ricky) all of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Carrion, Arontae, Justin, Keyarah, Jordan, Essence, Angel, Journey, and Kameron; four brothers, Reynold Byrd, Jr. (Ora) of Virginia, and Donnie Ussery (LaDansa), Terrence Hill, and Lamont Hill (Nakita) all of North Carolina; two sisters, Denise Byrd of New Jersey, and Samarya Jones (Robert) of North Carolina; three aunts, Evelyn Burgess, Willie Mae Ussery, and Shirley Ussery; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance, 22 East 2nd Street, Weldon, NC. The Senior Pastor, Dr. Clarence L. Harris, will officiate and eulogize. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
