VERA ELLA JENKINS was born to the late Mark Jenkins and Berlina Harris Jenkins on October 28, 1934, in Littleton, North Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Monday, November 14, 2016, in the serenity of her home in Littleton, North Carolina.
Vera was the baby girl of seven children and was known as the “BABY”. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Costina and Dorothy; and three brothers, Lawrence, Robert, and George.
Vera received her formal education in the public school system of Warren County, North Carolina. She continued her higher education at St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work with the class of 1956.
Vera, fondly known as “Auntie Vee”, pursued her career in Social Work and became employed with the New York State Division for Youth. She retired as Director of Half-way Homes for boys and girls within the New York State Division for Youth. After retiring, she spent her time watching the soap operas – The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and General Hospital.
Vera was straight- forward woman who cherished her family, loved helping people, and enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and reading. She had an infectious laugh, and once she started to laugh, no matter where she was, everyone else would laugh, not even knowing what they were laughing about. She always had time for one more conversation with any and everyone.
Vera’s spirit lives today and forever more in the hearts of her oldest brother, John Mark; her Auntie, Eunice Bobo; eighteen nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law, Caroline Jenkins, Rita Jenkins, and Diane Jenkins; and her extended family and friends who will all miss their “Auntie Vee”.
