TIMOTHY “TIM” HARRIS was born on June 22, 1942, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Amos Harris and Jeoren Owens Harris. He transitioned from this earthly life to his Heavenly home on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital in South Hill, Virginia.
At an early age, he gave his life to Christ and became a member of the Gaston Missionary Baptist Church in Gaston, North Carolina. As a “Gastonite”, he joined the Usher Board and remained faithful in worship and duty until ill health prevailed. He was also a dedicated Mason of the Lively Stone Lodge No. 216.
Timothy was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Gracie Hicks. God blessed this union with one daughter.
His formal education was received in the Northampton County Public School System, where he attended the former Gumberry High School in Gumberry, North Carolina. He then became a truck driver for J.P. Stevens and Company and Purdue with the handle “Carolina Ford”. He later became an entrepreneur of his own company, Harris Trucking Company of Henrico, North Carolina. He established a career and remained in this profession for thirty-one years. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and being the grandfather of a little girl who was his pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Harris.
Loved ones remaining to forever memorialize his life, love, and legacy are his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Gracie Hicks Harris of the home; his daughter, Doris Rena’ Harris-Riddick (Gerald) of Henrico, NC; his precious granddaughter, Tavia Riddick of Henrico, NC; one brother, Jonathan Harris, Sr. (Veatrice) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Gaston Missionary Baptist Church, 962 NC Highway 46, Gaston, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. Tony Flood, Sr., will eulogize and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until 8:30 P.M. on Friday, July 21, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
