THOMAS BERNARD JEFFERIES was born to the late John Ellis Jefferies and Anna Mae Phipps Jefferies on July 9, 1951, in Halifax County, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Monday, March 11, 2019, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
“Bern” accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized, and became a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. He was active in the Greeters’ Ministry and the Hospitality Committee, both of which he really enjoyed. He was also responsible for the beautification of the lawn for the church and the cemeteries, and took great pride in his work.
“Bern’s” formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. He also attended Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina, for special training to work in the Print Shop at the former J. P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. In addition to J. P. Stevens and Company, he was also employed at Air Products in Bladensburg, Maryland, and Becker Farms Apartments in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
“Bern” enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He really enjoyed eating Chinese food at the Hunam Restaurant where he could get his famous Frog Legs.
Treasured memories of his life will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Princine O. Jefferies of Littleton, NC; his daughter, LaTisha Rover of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his three grandsons, Khalil, Khalija, and Jakai all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his three sisters, Debra Jefferies of Bowie, MD, Brenda Callaham of Lanham, MD, and Doris Jefferies of Irvington, NJ; his six brothers, Carlton Jefferies (Tina) of Oakland, CA, Winfred Jefferies of Fredericksburg, VA , Ronald Jefferies of Littleton, NC, Joe Jefferies of Lanham, MD, Robert Jefferies (Debra) of Durham, NC, and Thurman Jefferies (Delores) of Newark, NJ; his aunt, Mary Phipps Tabron of Littleton, NC; a special cousin, Luke Phipps of Richmond, VA; his close friends, Rev. John Lee Evans of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Dave Williams Littleton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 10614 US Highway 158, Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. C. E. McCollum, will deliver the eulogy. The body will repose at the funeral home on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M. The body may also be viewed at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
