A TIME TO BE BORN
THELMA LOUISE CARTER BYRD was born to the late Brownell A. Carter and Lena Mae Markham Carter on October 21, 1922, in Durham, North Carolina.
A TIME TO LEARN
Her education was received in the Hill and Hammer Public School System in New York, where she graduated from high school. Her areas of expertise included cosmology, community service, secretarial skills, and the New York City Mission Society, a Christian organization. Her community services followed her to North Carolina, once again in the public school system and she headed the 4-H Club at Nathaniel Macon Buck Springs Plantation. A time to learn, to give, and to care for others.
A TIME TO WORSHIP
Thelma accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age, was baptized, and became a member of West Durham Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina. After relocating to New York, she joined Union Baptist Church.
A TIME TO LOVE
In 1943, Thelma was united in Holy Matrimony to James Walter Byrd, who preceded her in death. This union was blessed with two daughters.
A TIME TO REST
On Friday, December 15, 2017, she ascended to be with the Father. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Delores L. Paige, brother, James B. Carter, and her sister, Dorothy Carter Kelly.
A TIME TO REMEMBER
Those remaining to forever share the precious memories of her life are her loving devoted daughter, Linda Gail Byrd-Russ; three caring grandchildren, Harold W. Freeman III (Kendalle), Ronald I. Paige, Jr. (Idanna), and Nefertiti Byrd; her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. The Pastor, Rev. Charles E. Walton, will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
