Suretha “Rhea” Harvey

SURETHA “RHEA” HARVEY peacefully departed this earthly life and entered her Heavenly home on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 16, 1957, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to Bessie Mae Hawkins Harvey and the late Wilson W. Harvey.

During her early life, “Rhea” accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina. She continued to profess  her faith and formed a personal relationship with God.  Her formal education was received in the public school system of Halifax County, North Carolina. She became employed as a housekeeper at Motel 6 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, where she enjoyed her job, was dedicated, and gave her loyal service until ill health prevailed.

In her younger years, she enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, and good music. As she aged, she enjoyed riding around town, cookouts at Jr.’s and Carolyn’s, and anywhere else she was invited.

“Rhea” was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She cherished lasting relationships and was thankful for her family and friends, even during the last hours of her life.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Harvey.

Those now left to cherish the precious memories of her life and love are her mother, Bessie Mae Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her children, Pamela D. Harvey of Greensboro, NC; Brenda T. Garner (Shawn) of Newport News, VA, Patricia “Ann” Harvey of the home, Jonathan Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Curtis Silver, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Enfield, NC; her siblings, Lillie Mae Harvey, Wilson S. Harvey (Cynthia), Everline Harvey Richardson (Robert), Catherine Harvey, and Carolyn Harvey (Danny) all of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Wilbert Harvey (Chris) of Richmond, VA; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including a very special devoted friend, Cecil Rooks of Gaston, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC. Elder Nathaniel Fleming will officiate, and burial will follow in the Holy Light Holiness Church Cemetery, Hawkins Chapel Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC.  The body will repose at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. – 8:30 P.M. on Friday, July 7, 2017, and for one hour prior to the funeral time.
