Sarah Senora Dowtin Brown

sarahsenorabrownSARAH SENORA DOWTIN BROWN was born on January 28, 1925, in the Dowtin Town community of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was the youngest of the ten children born to John and Sarah Dowtin (Martha, Clara, John Edna, Nannie, Virginia, Ike, Willie, Joe Lee, and Merle), and she grew up in a family that showered her with love and affection. She peacefully went home to be with God on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, in Alexandria, Virginia, at the home of her daughter, Mertis Brown Horton.

Senora received her formal education in the Halifax County Public School System where she became an avid reader, and later passed this trait on to her children. Her spiritual foundation began after being baptized at the Simmons Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, which was an integral part of her life from the time she was very young.

On December 1, 1945, Senora married Alex Brown, Jr. who preceded her in death. God blessed this union with three children, Mertis, Lina, and John. They made their home in the Thelma community of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Shortly afterwards, she changed her church membership to the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, North Carolina, and remained a faithful, devoted member for over seventy years.

Cherished memories of her life and love will be forever shared by her children, Mertis, Lina, and John; seven grandchildren, Jaqueline (Lenox), Joyce, Charles, Joseph (Jessica), Erika, Douglas, and Adam; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Jenkins Dowtin and Annie Brown; one brother-in-law, George Dixon; and many other loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 25, 2016, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Littleton, NC. The Pastor, Rev. Dr. C. E. McCollum, will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will repose at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
