Rufus Marvin Edmonds

RUFUS MARVIN EDMONDS was born on June 2, 1958, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Thomas Edmonds and Ruth Thorne Hockaday. He transitioned from this earthly life to enter the Heavenly realm on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the home of his sister in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Rufus accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized, and joined the Holy Light Holiness Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System. He became employed with CEI Transportation and remained loyal and dedicated until failing health prevailed.

Rufus enjoyed farming, cooking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and taking care of his dogs and horses. He lived life to the fullest and was always laughing, joking and making others smile. He never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, Rufus was preceded in death by his brother, Issac Edmonds; and his grandmother, Susie Thorne.

Those left to forever treasure the precious memory of his life and love are his companion of twenty-five years, Patricia Diann Robinson of the home; his two sons, Mack Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Leslie Garner of Littleton, NC; his step-son, Kareem Robinson; his step-daughter whom he reared, Wandanita Johnson; his god-daughter, Ariana Robinson; his sister, Josephine Harris (Johnnie); his brother, Calvin Edmonds (Sarah); two step-sisters, Glendora Hockaday and Louise Fobbs; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Edmonds; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, including a very close friend, Earl Claiborne.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the New Jerusalem Holiness Church, 312 NC Highway 186, Garysburg, NC. Bishop Barry Mayfield will deliver the eulogy, and burial will follow in the Holy Light Holiness Church, 663 Hawkins Chapel Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC. The body will repose at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC, on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 12:00 Noon – 8:30 P.M., and the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM., and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral time.
