Ruby Mae Lynch Solomon

Ruby Mae Lynch Solomon passed away peacefully as she answered God’s call to her eternal home on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Colonial Heights Health Care  Center in Colonial Heights, Virginia. She was born on May 19, 1937, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Willie Lynch and Viola Mills Lynch.

During her early life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a faithful member of the Walter’s Chapel Holiness Church in Essex, North Carolina. Her formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.

In 1952, Ruby was united in Holy Matrimony to Herbert Bernard Welch. This union was blessed with three children whom she loved dearly, Cynthia Christine, Jennifer Lin, and Brenda Ann. In 1981, she married Robert Farris Solomon who preceded her in death.

Ruby became employed as a certified Nurses’ Assistant at DePaul Hospital and also as a Baker at Giant Open Air Market in Norfolk, Virginia. She retired after twenty years of loyal service with both industries. She then worked as a Baker for Harris Teeter in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and retired after ten years of dedicated employment.

Ruby was well-known for baking beautiful cakes and arranging gorgeous floral designs. Among her greatest joys were spending time with her loving family and sharing time with her dear friends. She will be forever remembered for her giving heart, loving kindness, and enduring strength. “May the work she has done speak for her.”

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Ann; her brothers, Willie Plummer and Obie; and her sister, Bettie.

Those remaining to always cherish the precious memory of her life and the legacy of her love are her daughters, Cynthia Christine Barber and Jennifer Lin Welch-Jones (Charles); her stepchildren, Mack Conner, William (Brenda), Lawrence (Esther), Kenneth, Jeanette, Sylvia, and Audrey (Eley); her five grandchildren, Aja, William, Ramar, Jamaria, and Brandon; her seven great-grandchildren, Terrie, Terion, Tylee, Taejah, Nylah, Nia, and Brealyn; her brothers-in-law, Elder William Blanchard and Hamond; her sister-in-law, Mildred Lynch; a special friend, Ruby Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 7, 2017, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, NC. Elder Hurley Richardson will officiate, and burial will follow in the Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery in Chesapeake, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 6, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
